“First AS/NZS 4808 Standards Committee Meeting set to be held in May 2019”
A historic Trans-Tasman forestry standard is a step closer with the Gold Coast set to host the first standards committee meeting from Thursday, May 16th to Friday, May 17th 2019.
And in response to unprecedented interest from New Zealand stakeholders, Simon Dorries, Responsible Wood CEO, confirmed that a healthy balance of Australian and New Zealand interests will be represented on the committee.
“Certainly the interest from New Zealand stakeholders has been high, on the balance Australian and New Zealand representation will be almost 50-50 with slightly greater representation from Australians,” Mr Dorries said.
Reflecting on the standard development process, Mr Dorries advised that the new standard will be developed as a fully recognised joint Australia and New Zealand standard, will be accepted by PEFC International and meet the system requirements for a fully-fledged JAS-ANZ accredited Sustainable Forest Management system.
“This is highly unique, the new standard will cover Sustainable Forest Management and will underpin PEFC forest certification in Australia and New Zealand.”
“The new standard will be an endorsed Australian and New Zealand Standard, it can be used for PEFC and / or Responsible Wood claims and it can be used to meet timber legality requirements for import and export,” Mr Dorries said.
