This August, we hear more about the photo ‘Three generations’, that has brought Peter Vörös a runner up position in our 2019 ‘Experience Forests, Experience PEFC’ photo contest.
Peter tells us more about the image and why it is so important to show children the wonders of the forests.
How do you feel about forests, both professionally and personally?
The forest has a great charm for me. I like going to the forest for a walk to get energy and clear my thoughts. I like to walk alone, with my family or my friends. Slovakia offers many opportunities for hiking and walking through the beautiful countryside. I live in a part of Slovakia with many forests, so it is never far to the next forest.
For me, forests are an endless inspiration for photography. Every season in the forest has a great charm for me as a photographer.
How did the forest inspire you to take your winning photo?
I took the photo on a hike with my friends. I always take the camera with me when I go hiking. When I saw my friend with his son and his father surrounded by trees and nature, I immediately started taking pictures. This gave me this beautiful photo of three generations of hikers – a grandfather with his son and his grandson.
As a father, I think we need to show children the beauty of our forests and try to instil in them the love for forests and trees.
What do you think about the work that an organisation such as PEFC does to care for forests?
It’s great what PEFC does for forests and for generations to come. It’s good to find people and organisations that care for the forests and try to preserve them for us and for our children, so that our children and their children do not know the forest only from photos but can actually walk through it and soak in its atmosphere.
About the contest
In our 2019 ‘Experience Forests, Experience PEFC’ photo contest, we invited photographers and forest lovers to show us their best forest photos. The contest took place in 13 countries around the world, and we received photos of wonderful landscapes, wildlife and humans working and playing in the forest. From the thousands of photos we received, we chose our top 12 images – all of which can be seen here.
