The review of the AS/NZS 4708 Sustainable Forest Management Standard is underway, with the Standards Reference Committee recently convening for its launch meeting.
Held across two days both online and at Responsible Wood’s Brisbane headquarters, the meeting brought together 19 representatives from forest management, wood processing, the scientific community, environmental representatives, worker representatives and government from across Australia and New Zealand.
Conducted every five years, the review will consider both domestic matters and global issues affecting Australian growers, importers and exporters, including the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), conflict timber and updates to illegal logging regulations.
“In addition to responding to stakeholder feedback collected during a consultation process conducted in late 2025, the Standards revision will align AS/NZS 4708 with the 2024 version of the PEFC Meta Standard,” said Responsible Wood CEO, Simon Dorries.
The session focused on setting the agenda and approach for the review process, with the committee set to reconvene following an initial period of detailed review.
